The headlines make grim reading for anyone who loves to use the UK roads, the government is making a packet from car drivers and motorcyclists by placing speed cameras on an increasing number of roads all in the name of “safety”. Its obvious to anyone with a brain that there is more to their tactics than saving lives on the road, a noble cause to be sure. But the numbers show that the true reason for the draconian road safety measures are to generate cash for the government coffers. Thankfully we have a weapon in our arsenal to fight back against the injustice in the form of the Speed Camera Detector.

You’ll probably have heard about Speed Camera Detectors quite a bit if you have more than a passing interest in avoiding motoring offenses and the fines and penalty points that come along with them. Speed cameras are the police officers favorite way of catching motorists who veer over the speed limit.

The problem with a camera over a real live policeman is that the prevailing conditions are not taking into consideration when deciding which a fine and penalty points are warranted in any particular situation. If you get captured by a Speed Camera you will be guilty of breaking the law and will have to take the consequences. The world of speed cameras is a world in black and white with no room for conversation regarding the possibility that your fine might be unwarranted.

Its because of this that a growing number of people who love to drive have made the decision to purchase a speed camera detector to greatly reduce the chance that they will be stung by the road traffic menace. These great devices serve as an early warning system allowing you to check your speed when you are approaching a speed camera trap and thus avoiding the possibility of being prosecuted.

A little newer to the market is the GPS Speed Camera Detector which uses satellite to pinpoint your location on the roads and compare that with information stored on a database to figure out if you are approaching any speed trap zones. Having GPS functionality is now considered to be essential if you want the maximum possible protection from the modern speed detecting equipment used by the traffic police.

If you are going to purchase a speed camera detection system and don’t already have sat nav in your car then it makes sense to buy a combined sat nav speed camera detector. Surprisingly there isn’t great deal of choice in this area when compared to the number of devices available that do each of the individual tasks.

This article will give you an idea of the best product to get if you are in the market for a satellite navigation and speed camera detector in one. We’ll look at the cost of these systems, the features that you can expect to find and where you should buy.

With advances in the technology the prices of both sat nav systems and speed camera detection equipment has fallen dramatically since there introduction. You can now find a high quality GPS speed camera detector for around £50 and a reasonable sat nav can be found for about the same price. Getting the two units integrated into one unit tends to push the price up a little but if you show around you will be able to find a great device such as the Snooper Strabo for a lot less than the £200 recommended retail price.

For your hard earned money will be expecting a wide range of features to be included and you won’t be disappointed as long as you get a product from one of the main manufacturers. Look for devices that have as large a screen as possible and voice guidance to make using the sat nav as useful as possible. Its probably worth checking that you are getting European street mapping included for any trips you make across the Channel.

Thanks to the Internet its now easier than ever to do plenty of research before you buy a sat nav speed camera detector and you should make full use of this ability. There’s plenty of sites that will give you pointers as to the best model for your needs and sites such as Amazon have plenty of impartial reviews which can be helpful.

Where you find the cheapest prices will depend on what brand you are wanting to buy and if you want brand new of second hand. Ebay is of course the place to go for a used speed camera detector just make sure the seller has a good feedback rating to ensure you don’t get stung.

For new combined sat nav camera detectors I always start of at Amazon just so I can read any reviews of devices I am interested in and also to give me a fair indication of the price I should be paying. Amazon itself sometimes the cheapest place to buy and you can often find great bargains in the Amazon marketplace.

So, there you have it, Sat Nav Speed Camera Detectors are widely available on the Internet at prices which are cheap enough for most of us. Get make sure you do some research so you are not disappointed with your purchase when you get it out on the road.

GPS Speed Camera Detectors may differ slightly from the models you are used to using. GPS models have a database which stores the locations of accident black spots and speed cameras on the UK roads. The locations are of course subject to change so you can upload new information onto your device from your computer every so often to keep up-to-date. The system uses satellite gps navigation to pinpoint your location as you drive along the road and will tell you of upcoming hazards and speed cameras by matching your location against its database.

As long as you buy a model which you can get regular, accurate database updates for then a GPS camera detector is highly reliable. These units are also much less likely to trigger a false warning when compared to traditional radar detectors. GPS speed camera detectors are completely legal in the UK so you can use them with confidence and know that your license is safe.

GPS Speed Camera Detector

The only potential downsides of these devices is that you will be unaware of mobile speed camera units until you see them with your own eyes which will be too late, although some models will warn you of spots that are often used by the mobile speed trap units. As 80% of speeding tickets come from fixed camera this may not bother you too much, it will all depend what roads you regularly drive on.

If you are on the ball when you are buying a new speed camera detector you will get one that uses a combination of technologies. While the GPS system is an absolutely essential part of the process you will want one that also uses at least laser detection so you can get the best of both worlds. For absolute maximum possible protection you’ll want to get GPS, laser and radar all rolled into one. This all-in-one type device will warn you of every possible license hazard on your route with the only possible disadvantage being the fact that they can be prone to triggering false warnings.

The government and the mainstream media would have us believe that no matter what the weather conditions, the car you are driving, how busy the roads are or the state of mind you happen to be in at a particular time, there is only one velocity that it is safe to travel at on UK roads. This is a patently ridiculous idea that surfaced at some point in the distant past of our motoring culture and its the thing that has caused many of us to resort to using speed camera detectors.

Who was it that decided that 70 miles per hour was the fastest that a human could travel in a motor vehicle? It doesn’t matter if you are in a Ferrari, an old mini or on a top of the range motorcycle, travel at over 70 mph and you are endangering your own life and that of all those around you. Disregard the fact that all these vehicles have varying degrees of effectiveness when it comes to braking, cornering and accelerating these factors are irrelevant to the powers that be. Also to be ignored is the fact that drivers constantly have differing degrees of alertness that only they themselves can realise.

I mean how who well do you drive when you have had a good nights sleep, have got nothing negative on your mind and are out in your car for a relaxing 45 minute drive. Contrast this with the driving of someone who is in a foul mood because they have just split up with their partner, hasn’t slept for two nights with anxiety and is late for an appointment for the dentists. I mean can both these people be considered safe at 70 mph on a busy motorway? I’d contend that the second person shouldn’t be on the road for the safety of all road users but the law has nothing to say on the matter because its something that can’t be measured. If they could measure it you can be sure they would fine anyone in such a state for all they could get.

Perfect Road For A Speed Camera Detector

That nice round 70 mph number though is easily measurable and all other unmeasurable factor are thrown out the window. If you want to guard against this unfair use of technology then you have to take action in the form of buying a camera detector. You could just slow down you driving but if you are on he roads a lot or particularly enjoy driving a bit faster than is allowed when the conditions are right then the radar detector is the only choice.
